PAP AND THE NIGER DELTA: Appreciation to Tinubu, Otuaro; A Call For Solidarity From All Stakeholders — Eseimieghan
I begin this article with a sincere appreciation, not just as a son of the Niger Delta, but as someone whose life and educational journey has been positively impacted by the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP). To me, the PAP is more than a scholarship programme; it is a vision that has given hope to many young people, opened doors of opportunity, and created a pathway for a better future.
My special appreciation goes to the Presidency led by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and to the Administrator of the PAP, High Chief Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, for their commitments, dedication and continuous efforts toward expanding educational opportunities for the youths of the Niger Delta region.
I sincerely appreciate the support of the Presidency towards the human capital development in the oil-rich region through the PAP, as well as the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for his role in overseeing the programme.
My appreciation equally goes to the founding fathers of PAP, past administrators, stakeholders, management, staff, and everyone working behind the scene to ensure that this vision continues to produce meaningful results. As a beneficiary of this programme, I understand what it means to be given an opportunity that can change the direction of one's life. This is why I will always appreciate genuine efforts aimed at empowering our people through education and skills development.
I also want to use this medium to share something important with my fellow brothers and sisters in the Niger Delta. We must understand that leadership and development are collective responsibilities. Not everyone can occupy a position of authority at the same time, but everyone can contribute meaningfully to the success of a good vision. We cannot all be in office at the same time, but we can all be part of the vision.
Therefore, instead of always working against those who are given the opportunity to serve, let us learn to support them with constructive ideas, encouragement, meaningful contributions and sincere advice.
If you have a dream, share it. If you have a vision that can benefit our people, communicate it to those in leadership. If you have an idea that can improve the programme, bring it forward. We do not necessarily need to occupy an office before we can make a positive impact.
Supporting a leader does not mean we cannot correct them when necessary. Constructive criticism, accountability and honest advice are also important parts of good leadership. But our contributions should be driven by the desire to see progress, not by personal differences or the desire to see someone fail.
The success of a good vision should be more important than who occupies the office. Positions are temporary, but the positive impact of good leadership can last for generations. When a programme succeeds, the benefits should not be limited to the person in office, their friends or associates. The benefits should reach the wider public, especially the young people and communities for whom the programme was established.
Let us therefore encourage those who are genuinely working for the development of our region, while also holding them accountable to the people they serve.
To Dr Otuaro, I say thank you sir. Your efforts towards expanding scholarship opportunities are appreciated. My prayer is that God Almighty will continue to grant you wisdom, strength and the right people around you to achieve even greater things.
To my fellow PAP beneficiaries, let us remember that these opportunities come with responsibilities. We must strive for excellence, make our families and communities proud, and use the knowledge we acquire to contribute to the development of the Niger Delta.
And to those still waiting for opportunities, I sincerely pray that the programme will continue to expand so that more deserving young people can benefit.
My message is simple: Let us build together, support good ideas, share our visions and put the collective interest of the Niger Delta above personal ambition. We may not all hold positions of authority, but we can all contribute to a legacy that future generations will appreciate.
May God bless everyone genuinely working for the peace, unity, education and development of the Niger Delta.
Long live the Presidential Amnesty Programme!
Long live the Niger Delta!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
