OPOROZA: PDP Deputy Ward Chairman Gbanale defects to APC, calls for Ijaw Unity
The Deputy Chairman of Oporoza Ward of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Gbanale Bakumor Larryson, has formally announced his defection from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gbanale, in a statement made available to the media on Monday (July 20, 2026), said his decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters, family members, and other critical stakeholders.
According to him, the move is driven by his determination to contribute more effectively to the development of Oporoza Ward, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area, and Delta State as a whole.
He said, "This decision comes after careful reflection, wide consultations with my political associates, supporters, family members, and well-meaning stakeholders. It is borne out of my sincere desire to contribute more effectively to the growth, development, and progress of Oporoza Ward, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area, and Delta State as a whole."
The former PDP ward deputy chairman stated that joining the APC would provide him with a broader platform to work alongside other leaders of the party in promoting good governance, sustainable development, youth and women empowerment, and improved welfare for the people.
He pledged his loyalty to the leadership of the APC and expressed his readiness to collaborate with elected officials, party leaders, and stakeholders at all levels in advancing the developmental aspirations of the ward, the local government area, and the state.
"As I join the ruling APC, I do so with a heart committed to service, unity, and the collective aspirations of our people. I am prepared to work harmoniously with the leadership and members of the party at all levels, alongside other political leaders and stakeholders, to promote good governance, attract meaningful development, empower our youths and women, and advance the welfare of our communities," he added
Larryson also expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunity to serve as Deputy Chairman of Oporoza Ward, noting that he remains grateful for the experiences, relationships, and support he received during his time in the party.
While declaring his new political affiliation, he emphasized that political differences should never undermine the collective interests of the Ijaw people, as he called on Ijaw sons and daughters across all political parties to embrace unity, peace, and mutual respect, stressing that the development of the Ijaw nation should remain a common objective regardless of political affiliations.
"Whether we belong to the APC, PDP, or any other political party, we must continue to place the unity and progress of the Ijaw Nation above partisan interests. Our collective strength lies in our ability to work together for the advancement of our people and the sustainable development of our communities," he stated.
Larryson further appealed to his supporters and political associates to join him in supporting the APC and to contribute positively to the growth of Oporoza Ward, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area, and Delta State.
He expressed optimism that through collaboration, visionary leadership, and sustained commitment, greater development and opportunities would be attracted to the area for the benefit of present and future generations.
