OPOROZA: Kenebra Quarter New Year Party in View
Kenebra, one of the quarters that make up the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Oporoza community, under the chairmanship of Hon. Alaowei Moses Zibinmoghan, pulled resources together to host sons and daughters of the quarter to a get-together party in celebration of the New Year.
Though the celebration which held in Oporoza community playground, might appear to have lost the significance of the New Year having been celebrated towards the end of the first month of the year 2025 (precisely on Tuesday, January 28), it however was still an avenue to reunite together natives of the quarter.
Nonetheless, the ceremony however brought together not only sons and daughters of the quarter, but also the entire Oporoza community, with the aim to create social harmony and spread joy.
One of the highlights that buttresses the importance of togetherness was demonstrated with the cutting of a cake, which symbolises unity and peace, by the leadership of the people.
Another major highlight of the 2025 edition of the celebration is the appreciation of leaders in the quarter through the presentation of awards in recognition of their contributions to its development and growth, and hoping to serve as an motivation for them to do more as well as for others to emulate their exemplary leadership style.
Speaking on the essence of the ceremony, a leader in the quarter, High Chief Isaac Gbabo, said, “Being united in the family and doing things together excites me so much, and I also appreciate the people for their contributions to the success of the programme.”
On the Award of Excellence he was bestowed with by the Kenebra Quarter executive leadership, he said it would serve as "a stimulant" to do more for the quarter and the community at large.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Kenebra Quarter, Hon. Alaowei Moses Zibinmoghan, added, "We decided to host the New Year celebration in appreciation to all sons and daughters of Kenebra Quarter especially its leaders. Moreover, anywhere you come from, it is your duty to promote such a place, not only by making its name known, but also in showcasing good works in order to create a positive reputation and impress a good image if it on others who would want to associate with you," he added.
With DJ Ralph supplying music, the celebration was an avenue for the people to showcases their culture and the traditions of the people in both fashion and dance.
