OKERENKOKO: Youth president-elect seeks unity, collaboration as Eleco chairman gives insights on electoral process
Adebayor Stanley, the newly elected youth president of Okerenkoko Youth Council (OKYC), the umbrella body of youths in Okerenkoko Federated Community, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, has called for unity among the youths and the need for collaboration with other stakeholders and organs of the riverine community's leadership towards achieving the objectives of the youth body.
Recall that an election to elect a new set of youth leaders was conducted by the Electoral Committee whose members are Comr. Super Toboulayefa Nanadigha as chairman and Comrade Dickson Uvo as secretary, on Friday, February 28, 2025.
At the end of the electoral process which was adjudge as peaceful, free, fair, and transparent, Adebayo Stanley emerged as President while Godspower Ginuwa as Assistant Secretary, Olaye Tare as Financial Secretary, Perezide Bubor as Chief Auditor, and Perede Opuna as Assistant Organizer.
According to the Eleco Chairman, Comrade Super, while giving insights on the process, stated that five positions of president, assistant secretary, financial secretary, chief auditor and assistant organiser were zoned to the main community, which were contested for, while the positions of vice president, secretary, public relations officer, treasurer, and organizer were zoned to the Zion section of the community according to the sharing formula.
He revealed that five candidates initially indicated interest for the position of President but one candidate dropped out of the contest while the other four candidates contested keenly, from which the winner emerged with votes of 12 to 11.
He also stated that the President and Assistant Secretary positions were the ones contested for as they were the positions that aspirants bought forms for. At the end, some of the presidential candidates that participated were selected to occupy the other vacant positions.
On the swearing in date, he noted that on the submission of names from the Zion, the leadership would meet to take a resolution on the due date for the inauguration.
Meanwhile, the President-elect, Comrade Adebayor, thanked the youths for giving him the mandate to lead them, and assured of his dedication to fulfilling the objectives of the youth body through collaboration and programmes to enhance the education and skill set of the youths.
He said, "First of all, being the youth president-elect, there are a lot of tasks ahead of us. I thank the youth in this confederate community for giving me the privilege to function as the youth president. As a youth president-elect in this great community, with the support of the youth, I believe this community will be greater.
"For the youths and the teenagers in this community, we will work endlessly to make sure that their educational background is improved. We will take their education as a number one priority and we will organize student club among other academic programmes that will make them improve on their studies.
"Also, most of our youths lack skill set. We will try our possible best to make sure that we influence skill acquisition programmes. We will work in collaboration with the federated community and other stakeholders to make sure that their practical educational background is improved.
"I will also want to work with the community to make sure that all the demands of the youth in this community are met. We will collaborate. I am also expecting the youths to work hand-in-hand with me. God bless our community. God bless the youth, and God bless Gbaramatu Kingdom," he added.
