OBITUARY: Tony Okirika loses mother, Princess Mrs. Veronica Okodogbe
The death has been announced of Princess Mrs. Veronica Okodogbe, mother of Mr. Tony Okirika and a native of Ubiaja in Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State, who departed the Earth to the Great Beyond after a brief illness at the age of 79 years.
This is contained in an official statement issued and signed by Mr. Okirika on behalf of the family and children and made available to PENGlobal.
"It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Princess Mrs Veronica Okodogbe. She passed on after a brief illness on Sunday, February 15, 2026," the statement reads in part.
The late Princess Mrs Okodogbe hails from the families of Chief Julius Ojese Abhulimen (The Obayangbon of Ubiaja) of Ukoha Quarters, and Mrs Martha Ojese Abhulimen of Idumehan Quarters, both of Ubiaja.
Mr. Tony, who is the son of the Bolowei of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West LGA of Delta State, High Chief Wellington Okirika JP CON, alias Mr. 13% Derivation Fund, said the family are currently in a period of grief.
Speaking on his mother's demise, Mr. Okirika, said it was a unexpected news and a trying moment for the family, as he called on sympathisers for their prayers.
"It is a very shocking and painful news. It's so hard to accept this tragedy that has become a part of life. All the same, in all, we give God all the glory and we need prayers for the strength to pull through," he said.
According to the official issued statement, the burial arrangements will be communicated to the public after the family has come to a resolution.
Meanwhile, plans are on top gear to give the late Princess Mrs. Okodogbe beloved daughter, sister, mother and grandmother a befitting burial.
