The Special Adviser on Special Duties to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro, has lit up 22 Niger Delta Ijaw communities with solar powered street lights to enhance visibility and security.

These achievements were made known in a released statement as part of Chief Otuaro's one-year anniversary in service as the Special Adviser on Special Duties to the MD/CEO of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.

The solar powered light project is said to be one of "the significant strides and transformative initiatives" that Chief Otuaro "has spearheaded in the Niger Delta region" as he continues to influence as well as "drive forward a multitude of development projects, leaving an enduring legacy across various communities in the Niger Delta."

Among the communities that benefitted from the illumination project include Ikoro in Edo State (150 solar lights), and Gbaraun town in Bayelsa State, while the others in Delta State are Adobu and Okoloba in Bomadi, Odimodi, Biniebi, Ogulagha, Sokebolou, Okerenkoko, Oporoza, Igoba/Peppe-Ama, Inikorogha/Azama, Kurutie, Kokodiagbene, Kunukunuma, Benikrukru, Kenyangbene (plus adjoining communities), and Ogbinbiri.

While Ikoro, Kokodiagbene, Kunukunuma, and Benikrukru each received 150 solar lights, Okerenkoko and Oporoza received 458 solar lights each, whereas the others each received 229 solar lights.

Chief Otuaro, who is the Ibe Uyadonwei of Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, assumed office in the NDDC January 2023 and has since "harnessed his expertise and influence to drive forward a multitude of development projects, leaving an enduring legacy across various communities in the Niger Delta" the statement added.
