NAOMARK 2023: Two Barristers Become One as Naomi and Mackson Tie Nuptial Knot in Traditional and Legal Way

updated 02 Oct, 2023

It is not always a common occurrence to see couples of same profession join together in marriage. For Barr. Naomi Orubu, and Barr. Mackson Ode, both legal practitioners joined the association of couples practicing same profession, when on Saturday, the 30th day of September 2023, the couple tied the nuptial knot in a traditional setting.

Their traditional marriage held at the Warri–Ogunu residence of the bride's father, Chief James Orubu, a prominent leader in the Gbaramatu and the Diebiri kingdoms, both in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Among the family guests of the bride and the groom that were in attendance during the traditional marriage rites include the renowned High Chief Dr. Bello Oboko, the Ibe–Ebiyedouwei of Gbaramatu Kingdom and founder of the Federated Niger Delta Ijaw Communities, FNDIC.

The traditional marriage which featured entertainment session by both the family of the bride and the groom, the payment of the bride's price by the groom's family, the appearance of the bride, and prayers of blessings on the couple by the bride's father, climaxed with the handing over of the bride by her father to the groom's father.

In fulfillment of the legal requirements pertaining to marriage, the handsome and beautiful couple, Barr. & Barr. (Mrs.) Mackson Ode, were earlier at the Registry in Warri South LGA to register their marriage.

What followed next after the traditional marriage was a celebration of the union of the latest couple in a reception party that was well attended by family members, members of the Gbaramatu Lawyers Association, friends, and other well-wishers.

"I feel satisfied, fulfilled, and accomplished," the bride, Barr. Naomi admitted when asked by PENGlobal Social on what she felt like being married.

On what counsel she has for single-searching ladies, Barr. Naomi said, "For me, my philosophy is that everything is divinely mapped out by God. My counsel would be: 'Just look up to God, believe in Him.' He said that we should lay our burdens at His feet and He will give us peace and answer our prayers. If you look up to Him in anything and in everything, trust and wait on Him with faith, our hearts' desires will be met.

"I may have been thinking that I would have been married some years ago or that I would have been married to a particular man, but this is the time God has destined for me and the man I should get married to. His Will is not always our Will, our Will is not always His Will for us. So they should focus on Him, believe and wait, with faith" she added.

Barr. Naomi who described her husband, Barr. Mackson as "a man who knows his duties, is patient, focused and a go-getter, having and showing love to all no matter who you are" thanked all those, particularly the Gbaramatu Lawyers Association for turning up despite the short notice of invitation by the couple.
