LEADERSHIP: Legislative tour will help in constructive conversations, appreciation for democratic processes — Gbaramatu Students
The National Association of Gbaramatu Students, NAGS, the umbrella body of students in Gbaramatu Kingdom has said that its recent visit by some members of the student body to the legislative chambers in the Warri South-West Local Government Council of Delta State will help them as future leaders to engage in constructive conversations, offer them insights on the workings of legislative governance and the importance of democratic processes to community development and growth.
This was disclosed by the Vice President of the Gbaramatu student body, Comrade Seigha Neisama, who led the students on a day tour of the Legislative Arm of Warri South-West LG Council at Ogbe-Ijoh Town, on Monday, March 24, 2025.
Other executive members of the NAGS in attendance are Comr. Kele Precious (Public Relations Officer), Comr. Joko Princess (Financial Secretary), Comr. Elekute Tamarapriye (Director of Sport), Comr. Kpadowei Kelvin Doubra (Provost).
Other students present are Newyear Destiny from Michael Cecilia Ibru university, Ebi Favour Tamaralayefa from Oghara Polytechnic, Gift Newman from Joint Professionals Training and Support International, Godspower Nebragho from Delta State University, Abraka; and Eboloubode George Lokoja, Eguare Christabel Enetimiebi and Eguare Rosabel Tare from Novena University, Ogume.
The student body during their tour observed proceedings held in the legislative chambers presided over by the Councillor representing Kunukunama Ward and Leader of the Legislative Arm, Rt. Hon. Ekpemupolo Idukedoumene Samuel, who also doubles as the Chairman of Councillors Forum in Delta State and the National Financial Secretary of Councillors Forum Nigeria.
Speaking to PENGlobal Community after the visit, the student body, in a statement it released stated that "The session was not only a remarkable experience but also an educational journey that equipped our members with critical insights into the workings of legislative governance.
"During the plenary, the NAGS members were taught how issues are meticulously addressed within the legislative council. They gained firsthand knowledge on the process of seconding pre-meetings and how motions are effectively adopted. Such understanding is crucial for any budding leader and student, as it fosters a deeper appreciation for the democratic processes that influence our communities," they added.
Speaking further the student body noted that, "One of the most enlightening aspects of the session was the opportunity to observe how our honourables deliberate on various matters. Their discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration, respect, and critical thinking in decision-making.
"As future leaders, it is essential for NAGS members to learn how to engage constructively in conversations that affect their peers and society at large. The collective knowledge and experiences shared during this session will undoubtedly resonate with NAGS members as we further our commitment to informed leadership and active participation in community matters," they added.
Meanwhile, the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Rt. Hon. Ekpemupolo, who was excited at the students visit hosted them to a brief interactive session in his office and pledged his support to help tackle challenges confronting the student body.
