LATE MRS SUN EWETAN: A Night of Celebration, Honour and Gratitude

updated 06 Mar, 2025

It was a night of celebration in Gelegele community in the Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State as the late golden mother, grandmother and great grandmother, late Mrs Sun Ewetan, who passed away at the age of 107 years was honoured with a social wake keep ceremony by her family members on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

Ijaw highlife musician, Dr. Alfred Izon-Ebi popularly known as JKing and his Because of Love Crew entertained guests with melodious tunes as part of the activities marking the befitting burial rites.

Recalling the life of his late grandmother, Mr. Freeborn Igere, a grandson, who was raised by the deceased, said he was like a direct son to her and that his grandmother was an enterprising woman especially in trading across the riverine communities.

On a lighter mood, he recalled one incident whereby he had to capsize his grandmother's boat out of anger because she failed to take him along in one of such trading expeditions.

Other members of the late Mrs Sun Ewetan praised their departed golden mother for being there for them and also for her cordial relationship with others in the community.

They also did not fail to express their appreciation, especially to High Chief Dr Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo and the grandson, Igere, for being instrumental in the honour of giving their beloved mother a befitting burial.

The late Mrs Sun Ewetan who was laid to rest at mid-day gave birth to five children among whom are Etologha Igere Nee Edekou (late), Glory Edekou (late), Helena Itikpan, Ken Government, and Ediminye Perewari.

Here are some photos from the ceremony that had in attendance family members, friends and other sympathisers who came to pay their last respect and to celebrate the life of a golden mother.
