KOKODIAGBENE: Comr. Pedro Bekenawei-led Exco Bows Out, Tenders Stewardship Report

Kokodiagbene community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Location  Government Area of Delta State, witnessed a transition in government as the Comrade Pedro Bekenawei-led executive council paved way in continuum for the Comrade Ark Selegha-led inaugurated leadership to serve a term of four years, starting Monday, January 13, 2025.

Tendering stewardship of his administration before stakeholders in the community town hall, few hours to the swearing-in / inauguration ceremony, Comr. Bekenawei listed the achievements of his executive as well as anticipated projects that are yet to kick off in Kokodiagbene.

But before listing the achievements, the Dabu chairman as he is fondly called, congratulated the Comr. Selegha-led exco, thanked other stakeholders for their support, as well as counseled his successor to not to hesitate to consult with leaders for assistance towards advancing the community 

He said, "It is often said that government is transient, bringing about the transition of administration today. In same breathe, l want to congratulate my successor, Mr Ark Selegha as the Executive Chairman of our great community Kokodiagbene. The task ahead seem enormous but surmountable with a formidable team, such as this being elected.

"I want to aptly thank the elders in council, chiefs, opinion leaders, men of goodwill/women and youths for the unflinching support in [the] course of my administration which created and enabled environment for this meaningful development and advancement.

"This fusion of our collective efforts resonated the infrastructural and economic development we can see on ground and feel, bringing the administrative journey [to] its enviable and successful end," he added.

Going forward, Comr. Bekenawei listed the achievements that include increased level of advocacy in synergy with state, federal and private sectors to promote mutually beneficial community infrastructural development as well as job creation and empowement; deployment of 16 staffs of the community secondary and primary school in collaboration with the Tompolo Foundation; financial and human resources mobilization for political advancement in participation of INEC electoral ward delineation exercise.

Others include empowerment of the elders above working class with financial grants in collaboration with Tompolo Foundation; synergizing with Tantita Security Services Limited for employment of indigenes of the community; a 2.04 kilometer internal road (under construction), a provision of W19 and W23 speedboat to ease mobility within riverine communities.

Completed pipe borne water project, a new modern Kokodiagbene Town Plan with maps, a one kilometer road construction ongoing by NDDC, 25 pieces of plastic chairs for the community town hall for elders in council, deployment of 10 secondary school teachers in collaboration with Tompolo Foundation, the repeal of bye laws of Kokodiagbene Constitution amendment, adopted and signed into Law as a working document, among others.

According to him, the upcoming projects that are expected include "electrification from Jones Creek Gas facility., reclamation of land expanse, construction of fore-shore wall for erosion protection and beautification, construction of community Ultra-Modern Event Centre/Playground, face-lift of community Cottage Hospital and standardization of medical equipment quality health delivery services."

Major highlight was the handing over of the amended Kokodiagbene Constitution and other executive documents to the inaugurated executives as received by Comr. Selegha, on behalf of other exco members comprising of Paul Diwere (Vice Chairman), Gabriel Ukuli (Secretary), Engr. Johnson Powede (Public Relations Officer), Nani Mala (Financial Secretary), Maxwell Obode (Assistant Financial Secretary), John Arukarawei (Assistant Secretary), Tima Igedo (Treasurer) and Jerry Ari (Provost).
