KOKODIAGBENE: Capt. Timiyan emerges Elders' Forum chairman, calls for unity
A foremost leader, Elder (Capt.) Dickson Timiyan, has emerged as the chairman of Elders' Forum of Kokodiagbene Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, to lead the body of elders in the oil-rich community.
Elder Timiyan alongside three other members namely Elder Francis Ayeku (General Secretary), Elder Alaowei Ari S. Ari (Assistant Secretary) and Amb. (Hon.) Powede Uyadonghan JP (Financial Secretary) were elected in Warri on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
Chiefs and elders that witnessed the brief inauguration are Double Chief (Engr.) George Timiyan JP, Chief (Capt.) Felix Eguare, Chief (Elder) Paul Ukuli, Elder Amos Uttoh (outgone chairman), Elder (Capt.) Paul Ukulor, Elder (Capt.) Mark Timiyan.
Others are Elder Pius Pudie, Elder James Ubebe, Elder Francis Juweigha, Elder Moses Ari, Elder Samson Beke, and Elder James Tuwor who was admitted into the Elders' Forum as its newest member.
Elders Uttoh, Ukulor, Timiyan, and Chief Jonathan Uti (who was absent) were appointed to the role of Advisers to the Elders' Forum.
The outgone chairman, Elder Uttoh, who had served for more than 20 years in the capacity of chairman, relinquished the position on the grounds of his aged state.
During the ceremony, he prayed for the newly selected leadership and counseled them to work in unity and uphold the reputation of the Forum known to enthrone justice, equity, and fairness.
In his acceptance speech, the Elders' Forum chairman, Elder Timiyan thanked members of the Forum for giving them the privilege to serve and appealed for their continued support as part of the Forum.
Speaking to PENGlobal Community shortly after the inauguration, he said, "We, the elders in Warri, work hand in hand with the elders in the home front; we relate and do things in common. We are not doing things outside the community," he stressed, and added, "I will relate with my executives here in Warri and work with one accord for the goal we are going to achieve."
Elder Timiyan in his message to the community said, "My message to the people is to build love. We should work together and not betray ourselves. If we betray we are not making headways. We have come a long way and we haven't got any problem, and it will continue that way by God's grace," he prayed.
The Elders' Forum of Kokodiagbene community was established as an organ of leadership in community affairs, with its role centered on giving counsels to both the executive and youth leadership, as well as on the affairs of the community at large.
