INVESTITURE: Prof. Okaba Set to Become Fellow of IPSS
The President of the apex Ijaw sociocultural organization, the Ijaw National Congress, INC, Professor (Dr.) Benjamin Okaba, is set to be honoured in an investiture ceremony by the Institute of Peace and Security Studies, IPSS, as a Fellow of the prestigious institute.
This was revealed by the INC President in an invitation notice circulating on the popular social media messenging platform, WhatsApp.
The investiture ceremony, organised in honour of Prof. Okaba by the IPSS, University of Port Harcourt chapter, is billed for Thursday, September 21, 2023, and holds at the Ebitimi Banigo Auditorium in the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The Institute for Peace and Security Studies, founded by Ethiopian Mulugeta Gebrehiwot in 2007, was created as a centre for teaching, research and outreach activities; and receives further stimulation from the African Peace and Security Programme (APSP), a partnership programme between the IPSS and the African Union (AU).
IPSS provides recognized academic education and professional training in conflict analysis, prevention, management and resolution; as well as conducts academic and applied research in the area of peace and security.
Prof Okaba, who has a PhD from the Department of Sociology, University of Port Harcourt with Distinction; a Masters (MA) in African Studies from the prestigious University of Ibadan, and a BEd Degree from the University of Port Harcourt, has received several awards such as CLO Award for the Protection of Democracy; Most Patriotic Lecturer’s Award (Claude Ake Hall, Uniport); ASUU (Uniport branch) Award of Merit outstanding Leadership and Commitment; Fellow, Institute of Human and Natural Resources Management; South-South Youth Assembly Award of Excellence, Lamb light News and Superlative Excellence Award for Competence in Administration, Probity and Accountability among others.
Prof. Okaba has served as Head of Department, Associate Dean, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Director of the Centre for the Niger Delta Studies both at the Delta State University and Niger Delta University; Provost of the College of Management and Social Sciences, Novena University; and Provost, Oleh Campus, Delta State University, Abraka. He was the Pioneer Director of the Institute of Foundation Studies, Federal University Otuoke; Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Studies, and presently Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
