ILLICIT SUBSTANCE: PAP Office, Pentaglo Partner Against Drug Abuse

updated 06 Sep, 2024

The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, High Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro, and the head of a nongovernmental organisation, Pentaglo Nigeria Limited, Mr. Seisingha Pondi, popularly known as 'Soso', has reached a consensus to partner together in the war against drug abuse as well as the rehabilitation of its victims.

The decision was reached by the duo at the end of a meeting on Thursday, September 5, 2024.

Mr. Soso, who is a Niger Delta humanitarian, bemoaned the fast rising rate of drug use and abuse among young people in the region.

He solicited the Presidential Amnesty Office’s partnership in setting up a rehabilitation program that will aid in the recovery of young people who have become addicts in an effort to reintegrate them back into society.

In his response, Dr. Otuaro commended the NGO for its outstanding endeavor to eradicate drug abuse among young people in the region, adding that such initiative should be supported from all well-meaning persons and organizations in Nigeria.

The PAP Boss further noted that the goal of Pentaglo to rehabilitate and reintegrate young people, who were once involved in violent crimes and drug abuse, back into the society is one of the primary goals of the PAP.

He stressed further that the NGO's initiative is exactly what is currently needed in the tough economic times to tackle the society scourge especially as more and more youths are becoming addicted to using hard drugs and substances abuse like cocaine, heroin, Indian hemp, Tramadol, among other illegal substances harmful to health.

Dr. Otuaro also opined that unless immediate action is taken, the aberration of substance abuse which is quickly spreading among youths would continue to "ruin the lives of our children who hold the key to the future of our beloved country Nigeria".

The PAP Boss assured that the office will give the necessary backing in its effort to eliminate the juvenile drug culture which has led to many of the youths losing their minds and their sense of purpose in life with majority of them suffering from complicated mental health issues.
