IJAW NATION: Pride of Peace Gbaramatu condemns FCT Minister Wike's inciting comments

A sociocultural organisation in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, the Pride of Peace Gbaramatu, has condemned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesome Wike, over his recent vituperations against the Ijaw people, describing the action of the former governor of Rivers State as "ungrateful" and a "gross misconduct".
The spokesman of the Pride of Peace Gbaramatu, Chief Lagos Bubor, made the association's position known in a statement the group released on Friday, March 14, 2025.
The Pride of Peace Gbaramatu in its statement noted that Wike's outburst including his reference to the Ijaws that are the fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria as a minority of minority is coming from a frustrated man who nemesis is catching up with.
Part of the statement reads, "The Pride of Peace Gbaramatu condemns in totality the abusive comments from the Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesome Wike over his actions and misconduct, for having the guts to insult the Ijaw people and his remarks that the Ijaws are a minority of minorities.
"Wike has forgotten that his second tenure election, the Ijaws helped him. If it is not with the help of the Ijaws, Wike would not have succeeded in that election. With the insults he gave to the Ijaw people, if he doesn't retrace his steps, the ancestors in Ijaw land will descend on him.
"Wike should know that the Rivers State he is taking as his home is not made up of only his Ikwerre people. There are people in that place before him. Has he forgotten what he did to Amaechi?
"Our fathers make a parable that, 'The cloth you use to tie another person, that is the same cloth other people will use to tie you.' So it is good for everybody to have good behavior. It is the evil Wike has done that is descending on him," the Pride of Peace Gbaramatu stressed.
Chief Bubor warned the FCT Minister to thread with caution and to conduct himself as a former governor befitting of "His Excellency" status rather than behaving arrogantly
"He (Wike) should know that the Ijaw people he is insulting are like crocodile. They operate in the river, they operate in the land. He shouldn't think that because he is in Abuja he can be talking anyhow.
"He should henceforth comport himself as a former governor that is worthy of the title His Excellency and not abusing that honourable office with his unwarranted outbursts against the Ijaw Nation and its elders," it warned.
