HYPREP: Hon. Beauty Warejouwei Emerges Member as Tinubu appoints Governing Council

A woman leader in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Beauty Warejuowei, has been appointed as alternate Governing Council member representing the Niger Delta as part of the reconstitution of the Governing Council and Board of Trustees of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYREP) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This was contained in a State House Press Release announcing members of the Governing Council and Board of Trustees for HYREP, as issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday, August 11, 2025.
According to the statement, the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, will serve as Chairman of the Council.
Other members are Loanyie Barituka Victor, who represents the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) focused on the environment, while Bright Onyebuchi Jacob and Henry Obiabure, represent Niger Delta communities.
Also, membership include Professor Barinedum Michael Nwibere and Barrister Baride Abdul Gwezia who are representatives of the Ogoni Community on the new Council, while the nine oil-producing states have two representatives on the Council, namely Gideon Onyebuwa Melfor and Dr Ibikunle Omotehinse.
Four alternative members of the Governing Council were appointed, with Rev. Canon Dr Abraham Olungwe (who was reappointed) and Engr. Maeba Power Ekpobari representing Ogoniland and the Niger Delta, while Joseph Akedesuo and Beauty Warejuowei represent the Niger Delta.
President Tinubu also reconstituted the HYREP Board of Trustees, with Emmanuel Nwiika Deeyah reappointed as chairman, while Fred Mbombo Igwe and Dr Fred Barivule Kpakol will represent Ogoni communities and stakeholders on the board.
Mrs Dorcas Amos represents the other Niger Delta communities, while Chief Jide Damazio (who was reappointed), represents the NGOs dealing with environmental issues, the statement reads.
