HUMANITARIAN: How Tompolo's Tantita is Touching Lives, Setting the Pace in Niger Delta

updated 05 Jul, 2024

The foremost security organization in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, owned by the Niger Delta activist High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, first sprung to limelight in 2022 when the organization was awarded the pipeline surveillance contract job by the federal government via the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited in the heat of oil theft that was almost grinding the oil and gas industry to a halt.

Since then, Tantita, which undertook the daunting task of rescuing the country's oil and gas assets from pipeline vandalization, the restoration of the aquatic habitat from incessant pollution, the revamping of oil production capacity, the improvement of oil revenues among others, has become a household name in the region as well as in the country at large, going by its successful execution of the contract to the admiration of all, but not without a battle from the cartel of oil thieves.

But of recent, the security firm seems to be moving beyond just securing oil and gas assets to securing what matters most—the happiness and prosperity of Niger Deltans through its many social humanitarian intervention projects which it says is part of its corporate social responsibility. These acts of kindness exhibited by the security firm clearly underscores the human face of one of the most successful security outfits in the Niger Delta and throwing a challenge to other organizations to emulate its example.

Though known for its underground exploits in humanitarian efforts, a lot of the organization's interventions in the lives of the people are countless and are unreported. Yet there are those the security firm could not sweep away from the notice of the general public.

Among some of these public exploits is one which occurred late December of 2023, when the Managing Director of Tantita, High Chief Kestin Pondi, gifted a bungalow apartment which contains a three-bedroom flat, a self-contained and a bed-sitter to one Mr. Simeon Djagbo, a bassist who has no fingers but is a top-notch player of the guitar.

According to a report by DailyTrend online, High Chief Kestin had earlier promised Mr. Djagbo a house months ago when the fingerless bassist first caught his attention at a Warri concert tagged “Ratata Fiesta, The Jamboree Edition” that was held at DY Events Place and Lounge by TJ Hays (King Ratata), who himself was also gifted cash by the Tantita Boss to encourage him for his efforts to make his mark in the entertainment industry.

Also, in early January 2024, the Tantita Boss came to the rescue of a quadruplet mother, Mrs. Gladys Omodiagbe, who has been stuck in a private hospital in Warri, Delta State since October 2023 over her inability to settle the N4 million medical bill incurred on her delivery.

According to a report by The PUNCH Metro Online, the housewife, after a 12-year delay, was on Saturday, October 21, 2023, delivered of a set of quadruplets through a Caesarean Section at the Coastal Specialist Clinic in Bendel Estate, Warri.

The management of Tantita, through its Chief Security Officer, Ashakah Orobosa, who said, “Yes, the company has paid for her discharge. It was done as a part of our Corporate Social Responsibility,” effected the discharge of the mother and her quadruplets from the hospital at about 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024.

Tantita also has a large number of Niger Delta youths on its payroll in its bid to alleviate youth restlessness arising from joblessness as well as offer the teeming youths with opportunities for job and self empowerment. High Chief Kestin has even given grants to businesses for improved services and growth. One of such is a fast rising promotional brand popularly known as PENGlobal. The security firm has also embarked on community projects across the stretch of Niger Delta communities as a way of alleviating the plights of Niger Deltans.

But to many observers, while the humanitarian feats are laudable and should be commended, however, they are not totally surprised by such action by the Tompolo's security outfit, as the High Chief himself has been known for his humanitarian efforts for over the years, especially with its Tompolo Foundation.

This act of human kindness by High Chief Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) is one of the selfless acts that has endeared him the most to Niger Deltans as a leader who looks out for the welfare and wellbeing of his people. In other words, Tompolo is not cut-off from the conditions of the people. Till date he has chosen the creeks as his home as against some home in Dubai or foreign abodes.

But asides its humanitarian efforts, part of Tantita's strategy in winning the war against oil theft is also in undertaking projects that would improve its objectives of securing oil and gas assets. For instance, in the month of October 2023, Tantita constructed a 15 kilometer wooden pedestrian bridge to protect the Escravos/Amukpe trunkline in Mosoga, Ethiope East council area of Delta state, due to poor accessibility which had posed serious challenge in securing national assets in the creeks, and in July 2024, its reconstruction of the popular Bendel Estate road in Warri.

No doubt, Tantita has touched and changed lives and is still changing lives. The organization has proved that beyond the object of profiting, that goal should not be paramount to the detriment of the people. The security firm in just few years of its existence has built and is still building lasting legacies and goodwill for tomorrow today while others that have been in existence for years have continued to milk the people dry with no imprint of their CSRs footprint anywhere. God bless Tantita and its frontrunners!
