Hon. Okpoye Calls for Capable Hands in DESOPADEC Project Execution
The Commissioner representing Ijaw ethnic nationality in the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Hon. Spencer Okpoye, has reiterated the Commission's resolve to complete awarded projects in its mandate areas by engaging capable hands in their execution.
Hon. Okpoye made the call while addressing members of the OML 42 Host Communities Forum who were on an official visit to his Warri office on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
The Commissioner's call is coming on the spate of abandoned projects in the oil producing areas of the State, a situation that is partly due to the lack of funds on the part of the Commission to make payments as and when due, and on the part of contractors to complete awarded projects.
He said, "Already, we are collating the budget... We will improve on what others have done and we will do things differently this time around.
"Many projects are abandoned because of lack of funds. We know Local Content is key to project execution, but we advice that if you are not capable to do it (project), look for those who have the funds to do it, to execute.
"We know there are delay in payments but this time around we are working towards the implementation and payment on project execution," he assured.
Hon. Okpoye also appealed to host communities to ensure that they assist the Commission in monitoring projects' execution till completion as such projects are for their benefits.
"Try to monitor projects in your areas as a way of support to us to ensure the project is completed. My duty, of course, is to monitor project till completion," he added.
