The Gbaramatu Healthcare Practitioners Association (GHPA) has sought the royal blessings and support of His Royal Majesty, Oboro Gbaraun II (JP), Aketekpe, Agadagba, the Pere of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State towards repositioning healthcare delivery across the riverine kingdom.

The Association, led by its President, Popo Christabell Peres, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the revered monarch on Friday, September 25, 2026.

The GHPA President who led a delegation during the visit lamented the shortcomings in the kingdom’s healthcare system, noting that many residents had endured poor access to quality health services over the years.

Peres appealed to the Gbaramatu monarch to give royal backing for all healthcare-related activities in the kingdom to be coordinated and reviewed through the Association, with the aim of promoting professionalism, accountability and improved service delivery.

Peres identified key areas requiring urgent attention to include the proper structuring of healthcare facilities, partnerships with relevant government agencies and private organisations, screening and verification of healthcare personnel, regular inspection of facilities, transparent employment processes, adherence to professional standards and an open payment system.

Other proposals presented by the Association include the extension of health services to underserved communities and the provision of a minimum budgetary allocation for the healthcare department in Gbaramatu Kingdom.

She also sought the monarch’s fatherly prayers for the Association to succeed in its mandate of advancing quality healthcare for the people.

Responding, His Majesty commended members of the Association for coming together to establish a professional body, describing the initiative as laudable and capable of improving the wellbeing of the Gbaramatu people.

The monarch charged GHPA members to remain committed to the noble cause they had commenced and prayed for the success of the Association.

Members of the delegation during the visit include Dr. Angela Basil, Pharmacist Oboko Vincent, Mrs. Dora Ebikeme, Helen Tom Uyateide, Perede Meinfade, Tamaralayefa Tonwei Bebenimibo, Peace Okpoye, Mrs. Doris Jenakumor, Dr. Praise Ebimaye Tangbe-Ari and Hope Hither.

The GHPA purpose is centered on bringing most challenging healthcare services closer to the Gbaramatu people in order to meet their needs, reduce disease burden, renewal of existing healthcare facilities and collaborating with private and public parastatals to bring to the barest minimum healthcare challenges, most especially the underserved communities, while in the process also creating jobs for those in the healthcare sector.
