GYC LEADERSHIP: Use 18-Month Extension to Address Astounding Issues — Prospective Youth Aspirant Otolu Tells Hon. Ebikeme-led Executives
A youth leader in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Comr. Daniel Osuokoro, popularly known as Otolu, has charged the Hon. Shadrach Ebikeme-led executives of Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC) to utilize the recent 18 months extension given it to address core issues as the Council prepares for its next election.
Comr. Osuokoro, who is a prospective aspirant for the position of president in the umbrella body of youths in Gbaramatu Kingdom, gave the charge as part of a congratulatory message to the executive members of the GYC on Wednesday, October 25.
In his message, Otolu hailed stakeholders of the youth body for their decision to give the GYC executives more time, and that he accepted the decision wholeheartedly despite being a stakeholder in the youth body with interest to vie for the number one seat.
In his words, "First of all, I congratulate the Gbaramatu Youth Council executives for the extension of a year and six months given to them by well-meaning stakeholders in the youth organisation.
"Secondly, I salute the patrons for granting the extension. I am an aspirant contesting for the position of youth president in the GYC. But I stand for whatever thing that is right for the leaders, and I appreciate them for giving the extension to the youth executives to put their house in order.
"I, as an aspirant, feel that there are some certain things that should be put in order before the election. And I was thinking I will be the one to raise the issue. But all the same, I really appreciate the leadership of the GYC that came out with this kind of suggestion to be able to sit and address the issue once and for all," he stated.
Comr. Osuokoro who is from the zone that is due to produce the next GYC president, stressed that "18 months is not 30 years", and that the decision is for the good of all Gbaramatu sons and daughters, hence anyone opposed to it should look internally to address his/her concerns or resolve them.
"As an aspirant from the next zone, whoever that has issues with the tenure elongation should be able to express their views, not on the Internet, but they know the right people to call to address them internally.
"The extension is not a bad idea. If me that has interest is not alarmed then I don't see why anyone should be. We need to get it right. As I've advised, the Hon. Ebikeme-led GYC executives should use this 18 months to address some astounding issues before the election, that is my stand," he again reiterated his position.
