GYC: 'Disregard Publication Against Tenure Elongation' — Parliamentarian Ipopo Refutes Signatory Circulating Online
A youth leader and Clerk in the Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC) Mobile Parliament, Mayor Present Ipopo, has called on the general public to disregard an online publication in circulation purportedly made by the organ of the youth council opposing the tenure elongation of the Hon. Shadrach Ebikeme-led executives, while refuting claims that he was a signatory to the publication.
Mayor Ipopo who made his position known in a statement he signed and released on Friday, October 27, also frowned at another earlier publication that was made in same manner in the absence of his involvement.
Moreover, the Clerk of the GYC Mobile Parliament averred that he was not aware of the decision in circulation in the said publication opposing the tenure elongation of the GYC Executives.
Part of the statement reads: "Following the publication made by the Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC) Parliament on the tenure elongation by the GYC Executive Council on 27 October 2023, I want to categorically state clearly that, as the Clerk and custodian of the GYC Parliament Secretariat, I, Mayor Ipopo Present is not aware and cannot authentic the said publication as my name is a signatory to the publication.
"Moreso, a publication was made Saturday 21 October 2023 in this same manner by the Speaker of the Parliament and it was overlooked by the Clerk of the Parliament," he added.
Mayor Ipopo therefore call on the general public to disregard any publication made without inputs from the representatives of the zone making up the Parliament.
"On this note, whatever publication from the Parliament appending my name as signatory should be disregarded until a joint publication shall be made and signed by representatives of the zones represented in the Parliament," he said.
It would be recalled that stakeholders in the GYC, arising from a meeting in Warri on Saturday, October 21, had given an 18 months extension to the leadership of the administrative arm of the youth body to enable it attend to some outstanding issues affecting the umbrella body of youths in Gbaramatu Kingdom. However it appears the decision did not go down well with some.
