GYC CONGRESS: Aketekpe urges youth leaders to embrace teamwork

The Pere of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Oboro Gbaraun II (JP), Aketekpe, Agadagba, has urged leaders of the Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC), the umbrella body of youths in the kingdom, to work together as a team in order to achieve the desired result of the youth body and the Kingdom at large.

His Majesty, who was represented by the Ibe Serimowei of the ancient kingdom, Chief Sheriff Mulade, gave the counsel at the GYC Congress organised by the Mr. Egbejule Arerebo Kingsley-led executives at Sarabubou community on Friday, January 24, 2025.

The Congress which witnessed the presentation of a stewardship report by the executive arm, a lecture, the constitution of educational, socio-cultural and legal committees, climaxed with the election of members from the five zones making up the kingdom into the Council's Mobile Parliament.

The members of Parliament are Kester Ubebe, Roland Mala, Ubebe Stephen Arerepade, Sunday Faraju (Oporoza Zone); Franklin Ikpidi, Michael Ejoh, Miyenkeregha Destiny, Eric Agbasa (Azama Zone); Stanley Ozukesin, James Ebioworo, Shadrach Enebragho, Ebisinde Ozukesin Samuel (Kunukunuma Zone); Erebu Tonbra Dennis, Odiki Paul, Godday Tamaseide, Timiede Diamond (Okerenkoko Zone) and Obey Maxwell, Christian Okito, Doubra Timiyan (Speaker), Doutimi Cousin (Benikrukru / Kokodiagbene Zone).

Former student president of the National Association of Gbaramatu Students (NAGS), Comrade Doubra Timiyan, was unanimously adopted as Speaker of the GYC Mobile Parliament by fellow Parliamentarians.

Chief Mulade, who is the pioneer of the youth body, congratulated the Speaker and other Parliament members on their emergence, while he also charged them to collaborate with the executive arm as led by the national president.

He said, "The rules and regulations guiding the Parliament, you need to look at them carefully, thoroughly, so that it will guide you in the process. Every decision is managed by the Parliament, as they guide you.

"So, carry everybody along, work as a team. Teamwork is the foundation for any movement. And in a team, the president is the overall of the body. So, you must take your advice and your movement approval from him. You have to proffer ideas and solutions for him, upon his approval you give nod to it.

"Both the parliament and the sub committees and the national President of the Council should work as a team. That is the only way we can achieve a formidable body, that is only way we can achieve the desired result of the paramount kingdom," he added.

In his acceptance speech, Comr. Timiyan, on behalf of other members in Parliament, thanked the Council for the honour given to them to serve in the youth council 

He pledged to work together with the executive arm of the council as well as the sub committee members towards achieving the vision and enhancing the growth of the youth body.

Meanwhile, some of the female youths have protested the absence of any female representative in the membership of the Mobile Parliament.
