GYC 2024: Oporoza Chairman Charges Youth Council on Transparent Election, Promises Conducive Atmosphere
The Executive Chairman of Oporoza Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Febaide Godwin, has charged the Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC) Worldwide to ensure a free and transparent election process that will bring in new executive members to pilot the affairs of the umbrella body of youths.
Mr. Febaide gave the charge on Monday, February 26, 2024, in a phone call to PENGlobal Community ahead of the youth election that is scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2024, in Oporoza, headquarters of the kingdom.
The Oporoza chairman, who was also a one-time vice president of the youth body, cautioned against favouritism and partisanship by stakeholders, while he also called on the Electoral Committee members to create a level playing ground for all the candidates participating in the election process.
He also assured the GYC and those participating in the forthcoming election of a secured environment that will guarantee a peaceful and successful process.
In his words, "As a former Gbaramatu Youth Council executive member, I want to urge the electoral body of the GYC to conduct a credible, free and fair election that will produce the next leadership of the youth council.
"Then, as an Executive Chairman of Oporoza community and chairman of all chairmen in Gbaramatu Kingdom, I am also assuring the GYC and other stakeholders of maximum security for a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for the conduct of the election come March 1st, by the grace of God," he added.
Mr. Febaide further appealed to all those participating in the election to not see it as a do or die affair, noting that Gbaramatu Kingdom is one large community with opportunities for all those who are willing to contribute their quota to its development.
"My message to the various GYC candidates is that we are all brothers and sisters in the first place, we are all Gbaramatu people. And so, they should not allow this election to be an avenue to cause rancour or breed disunity. Whoever emerges should carry others along and those who could not win should join hands with the victors to move the youth council and the kingdom forward," he appealed.
