GBARAMATU: Pride of Peace commends Tinubu for demonstrating practical leadership, acknowledges stakeholders' roles in NMU
An association in the Niger Delta region, the Pride of Peace, has commended the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government of Nigeria for demonstrating practical leadership through his administration's bold step in signing the bill establishing the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU) into law, an action it said has laid to rest the controversy surrounding the maritime institute.
Chief Peter Bubor, the spokesperson of the association and the Amadiwei of Makaraba community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West council area of the state, made this known in a chat with the media on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
He said, "I, Chief Peter Bubor, the spokesperson of the foremost association, the Pride of Peace, and the Amadiwei of Makaraba community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, are delighted on the recent signing of the bill establishing the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko.
"That bold step by President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated that his administration believes in practicality, not just talking without taking action. We recall that the President formerly pledged to sign the NMU bill into law, and true to his word he fulfilled that promise.
"We, the Pride of Peace, therefore thank President Bola Tinubu for putting an end to the cycle of controversy surrounding the NMU in his first tenure in office, which his predecessor could not achieve," he stated.
Chief Bubor also extended the association's gratitude to all those it noted contributed immensely to not only the recent success of the NMU but the overall development of the kingdom and the region at large.
"We also recognise the roles played by various stakeholders concerning the maritime university and tne kingdom's development at large.
"First we thank the Pere of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oboro Gbaraun II (JP), Aketekpe, Agadagba for his peaceful reign that has continued to usher in much developments to the kingdom, and also to our dear leader in the Niger Delta, High Chief Dr. Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, for his many sacrifices over the years in championing the birth and operations of the NMU.
"We also acknowledge personalities such as the MD of Maton Engineering Nigeria Limited Mr. Matthew Tonlagha, the MD of Tantita Security Services High Chief Kestin Pondi, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme High Chief Dennis Otuaro P.hD, former deputy governor Dcn. Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, the present speaker in the Delta State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, the honourable member in the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Julius Pondi, the Fiyewei of Gbaramatu Kingdom High Chief Dr. Godspower Gbenekama JP, among so many others.
"These personalities and sundry others worked tirelessly to ensure the recorded success of the NMU, and we, the Pride of Peace, on behalf of the Gbaramatu people are deeply grateful for their contributions," Chief Bubor added.
