GBARAMATU: NDLEA, GYC strengthen partnership, to host seminar in anti-drug combat
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and the Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC), the umbrella body of youths in the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West council area of Delta State, have re-strengthened their collaboration in the fight against drug abuse with a move to embark on an awareness campaign.
The renewed synergy is coming on the heels of the visit by the Positarewei of the kingdom, Chief Simeon Bebenimibo, in collaboration with the Comrade Egbejule Arerebo Kingsley-led GYC, to the Commander in Charge of Delta Ports Command, Ann Okoebon CN, on Monday, November 3, 2025.
According to Bebenimibo, a member of the Traditional Council of Chiefs, revealed that the mandate to eradicate drug abuse in the kingdom is sanctioned by the His Royal Majesty, Oboro Gbaraun II (JP), Aketekpe, Agadagba, the Pere of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom.
The visit, he said, is centered on the appeal on the need for the NDLEA to set in motion a machinery to see to the execution of an enlightenment campaign via a seminar in the headquarters of the ancient kingdom, Oporoza, to help create more awareness to the youths on the dangers, effects and consequences of drug abuse.
The NDLEA expressed excitement in the proposition and said such act is a demonstration of the kingdom's leadership to lend its support to the Federal Government anti-drug agency to rid society of the evils of drug abuse.
The proposed seminar which will feature sometime in November 2025 will have keynote speakers and resource persons to share insights and strategies for building a healthier, drug-free society within the Gbaramatu Kingdom and beyond.
Recall that the GYC Anti-drug Monitoring Committee, chaired by Frank Ekpemupolo Esq., had paid the anti-drug agency a visit last year, precisely on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, to the Area Commander and Assistant Commander of Narcotics, Ishaku Dabara, at the Warri Area Command, to seek the agency's help to combat the menace of drug abuse among youths as well as to prevent the social scourge from spreading in the riverine Kingdom.
That visit was later followed up with another working visit to the Commander in Charge of Delta Ports Command by the GYC's Anti-Drug Monitoring Committee, on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
