GBARAMATU: IYC unveils agenda for boosting NMU's awareness, academic excellence
The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Gbaramatu Kingdom chapter in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, led by its chairman, Comr. Oyinkuro Wazo, has unveiled branded notebooks and textbooks with background information of the Nigeria Maritime University, NMU, Okerenkoko, as a way of creating more awareness about the maritime institution and boosting academic excellence.
Comr. Oyinkuro made known the latest plan of the youth body during an official visit to the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oboro Gbaraun II (JP), Aketekpe, Agadagba, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
Executive members of the IYC Gbaramatu Chapter in attendance are Prosper Eguare (Vice Chairman), Tracy Lawei Edolo (Secretary), Wisdom Pori (Assistant Secretary), Ebimotimi E. Ari (Information Officer), Moses Uruemu (Treasurer), Dise Sonya (Women Leader), Beauty Wuruyai (Financial Secretary), Ukuli John (Mobilisation Officer), Douye Simon (Student Rep.), Onimide Aruwei (Parliamentarian), and Peter Pudie (Parliamentarian).
Also, other cross section of youths present during the visit include the president of the Gbaramatu Youth Council, GYC, Comr. Egbejule Kingsley; the immediate-past GYC president, Hon. Ebikeme Shadrach; Comr. Asoh Ebikefe, Barr. Emotimide Friday, Comr. Evene Happy, Comr. Ejiro Bobo Mesahrun, among a host of others.
In his briefing, the IYC Gbaramatu chairman noted that the branded books will serve the dual purpose of enhancing academic performance as a learning material and to also create awareness of the NMU as it contains some vital informations about the maritime institute.
He also intimated His Majesty on the youth body's skill acquisition initiative that is embarked to create opportunities of vocational training as a means of empowerment to Gbaramatu youths as a way of engaging the youths toward productivity.
According to Comr. Oyinkuro, mass copies of the branded books, whose cover contains a photo of His Majesty and other background photos and information of the NMU, will be distributed to students within and outside the kingdom.
Comr. Oyinkuro appealed to the traditional council and other stakeholders to support the youth body in its initiative to enable it shore up enough resources in order to widen the opportunity to create room for more beneficiaries into the empowerment scheme.
Responding, the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom commended the effort of the youth body in undertaking such a strategic programme and pledged his support to the initiative.
His Majesty offered prayers of blessings and wished the initiators success as well as counseled them to be focused and to be dedicated in the pursuit of the accomplishment of the empowerment programme.
Highlight of the visit was the presentation of a copy of branded note- and textbook by the IYC Gbaramatu Kingdom chairman to His Majesty, received by the Perediwei, High Chief Julius Tonfawei.
