GBARAMATU: IYC Announces Supplementary Educational Support Scheme
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Gbaramatu Clan in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, has announced the launch of its Supplementary Educational Support Scheme for those undertaking the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and for tertiary students across the kingdom.
This is contained in a notice released on Monday (January 13, 2025) announcing the scheme and that was signed by the IYC, Gbaramatu Clan Chairman, Secretary, and Information Officer, Comrades Wazo Oyinkuro Zikurebai, Tracy Lawei Edolo, and Ari. E. Ebimotimi, respectively.
Part of the notice reads: "We are excited to announce that the Ijaw Youth Council, Gbaramatu Clan, is pleased to introduce a new initiative aimed at supporting the educational aspirations of our youth.
“In our commitment to fostering academic excellence and providing opportunities for our students, we are launching a supplementary educational support scheme for tertiary students across the kingdom.”
According to the Clan Chairman, the key features of the scheme are free JAMB registration, scholarship reward, and bursary for students undergoing studies in tertiary institutions.
"Free JAMB Registration: We will cover the registration fees for all potential JAMB candidates, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder their pursuit of higher education.
"Scholarship Rewards: A scholarship reward of #50,000 will be awarded to the 10 highest scorers in the JAMB examination. This is our way of recognizing and encouraging academic excellence among our youth.
"Bursary for Tertiary Students: We will also provide bursary support for students currently enrolled in higher institutions. This financial assistance aims to ease the burden of educational expenses, allowing our students to focus on their studies. This will serves as an avenue for us to know the number of Tertiary students across the kingdom," the notice revealed.
The IYC Gbaramatu Clan leadership, while giving the reasons behind the initiative, reiterated its belief "that education is a powerful tool for empowerment and development" and that it recognises that "this initiative reflects our dedication to nurturing the potential of our youth and ensuring that they have the resources they need to succeed."
On eligibility criteria and the application process for qualified candidates, Comrade Wazo hinted that more information will be communicated in no distant time just as he urged "all interested students to stay tuned for updates" while an assurance that "A link for Application and Registration will be posted subsequently."
