GBARAMATU: GYC parliament holds first sitting, discusses constitution amendment, other key issues
The Mobile Parliament of the Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC), the umbrella body of youths in the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, convened its first sitting, marking the commencement of its legislative activities for the new parliamentary calendar 2026.
The sitting, which held on Wednesday, March 4, had in attendance the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Doubra Timiyan, who presided over the sitting, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Paul Odiki, and the Clerk, Hon. Comr. Ubebe B. Kester Denyefa.
Other members are Hon. Franklin Ikpidi, Hon. Godday Tamar Seide, Hon. Erebu Dennis Tonbra, Hon. Samuel Ozuke Ebimiesinde, Hon. Christian Okito, Hon. Mieyenteigha Destiny, and Hon. Okoritse Stanley.
In its capacity as the legislative arm of the youth body within the Gbaramatu Kingdom, the Parliament held a critical session during which a number of significant matters were meticulously deliberated upon.
Foremost among these was the passage of the report stage of the proposed amendments to the GYC Constitution, alongside extensive deliberations on the involvement and operational review of relevant committees in preparation for the forthcoming Amaseikumor Festival.
The Parliament also considered a proposed courtesy visit to the Legislative Arm of Warri South-West Local Government Area, alongside other issues of strategic importance to the council and the broader youth constituency.
The GYC Parliament is composed of representatives drawn from the various zones across the Gbaramatu Kingdom, ensuring equitable representation and fostering inclusive participation in the legislative affairs of the youth body.
In furtherance of its mandate to cultivate a more conducive and effective framework for youth engagement and development, the Parliament reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to advancing the interests of the youth of the kingdom.
It also reiterated its resolve to strengthen institutional synergy and promote constructive collaboration within the Council in pursuit of its collective progress.
