GBARAMATU: Education and the Reign of Aketekpe
One of the prominent dividends of the reign of the first class monarch in the Niger Delta, His Royal Majesty, Oboro Gbaraun II (Aketekpe, Agadagba), the Pere of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, was manifested when the traditional father received in the golden palace, some set of community-based teachers on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
Sponsored by the Tompolo Foundation, owned by High Chief Dr. Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, in collaboration with the Mr. Egbejule Arerebo Kingsley-led Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC), the community teachers were recruited to close the gap in the standard of quality learning between schools in the creeks and those in the urban areas, occasioned by the shortage of teachers.
Aketekpe, who was excited at the development, prayed for the organisers and sponsors of the initiative he described as one of the best investments in the kingdom, while highlighting the importance of education to the growth and development of any nation.
His Majesty also prayed for the recruited teachers as well as offered them wise counsels on ways to attain success in their assignment. He also assured them of their peaceful stay as the Gbaramatu Kingdom is a kingdom of hospitality that offers life transforming opportunities.
The first batch of community teachers are to be posted to schools in some major communities namely Oporoza (the headquarter of the kingdom), Kunukunuma, Benikrukru, Kokodiagbene and Okerenkoko.
The GYC had been working tirelessly, from the conduct of field assessments, to organising recruitment exercise to select the best hands for the job, culminating into mobilisation and deployment of the qualified teachers.
But none of this would have been possible without the peace experienced in the kingdom as enthroned by the reign of His Majesty that has continued to attract investors and development to the once neglected but now a kingdom that is blossoming.
May His Majesty continue to reign prosperously and God bless the Tompolo Foundation and the GYC for stepping up to guarantee quality education for the creek child which will translate in the long-term to the futuristic transformation of the ancient kingdom.
