updated 10 Oct, 2024

Death does not only condemn the body and steal the soul of its victims, it also steals the joy of the living. And that was the mood experienced at the funeral of the only female Kerubu, late Mrs. Mary Ogoere Thomas (Nee Odu) whose remains was interred in her hometown, Okerenkoko Federated Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, after a brief Christian funeral service on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

The service of songs ceremony of the late Senior Kerubu, who passed away at the age of 44 years, had earlier held at Orhuwhorun in Udu area of Delta State, on Monday, October 7, 2024.

The body of the deceased, in the early hours of Wednesday, was conveyed 8n a motorcade from the Ame Specialist Hospital at Okumagba Avenue to the Miller Waterfront jetty near the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) in Warri, from where the casket holding the remains was ferried by boat to Okerenkoko.

It was a crucial moment for the families and friends of the late Senior Kerubu as the atmosphere of the funeral ceremony was enveloped with sadness and saturated with showers of tears over the untimely death of the Senior Kerubu.

The late Mrs. Ogoere was the only female Senior Kerubu, a feat she attained from the School of Theology at Ogono-Ebijor Zion in Benikrukru Community, and also a record she held at the Foundation Zion in Warri, where she worshipped until her death. Kerubu, also known as Salvation Army, in the C&S churches is akin to the work of ushers in the Pentecostal churches.

The Snr. Boan. Arthur Ayeibo who officiated the funeral, testified, among other testifies, of the good and exemplary life lived by the deceased who was the only female Kerubu in the Cherubim & Seraphim Church.

The Senior Kerubu will be remembered among other virtues by her zeal for evangelism in winning souls to the church, and also for her generosity in donating items particularly furniture to other churches in need. She was also a personality known to be open-minded, never keeping malice with others.

Her roles in the church was not only limited to the work of the Salvation Army, but was also known to partake in other activities in the church where hands are needed to get things done. Such was her kind of person whose godly qualities were worth emulating.

Survived by five children, the late Senior Kerubu hails from the families of Odu Tuafiyegha in Okiri Idumu, of Okenrenkoko Federated Community, Bibopere Zion; from Agugu Idumu in Kokodiagbene Community, and from the Agiyor family in Oboro Idumu, Benikrukru Community, all in Gbaramatu Kingdom.

May her gentle soul rest peacefully (Amen).
