FUNERAL: Gbaramatu to honour Bolowei with kingdom burial for late wife Chief Mrs Esther Okirika

The traditional leadership of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State has pledged a kingdom burial for Chief Mrs. Esther Okirika alias Adorable Mama, the late wife of High Chief Dr. Wellington O. Okirika (JP), alias Mr. 13% Percent Derivation Fund and custodian of the title of Bolowei (Prime Minister) of the kingdom.
This was disclosed by a member of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom Traditional Council of Chiefs, Chief George Timiyan (JP), the Miyenkeremowei of the kingdom, during condolence visits by sympathisers to the Effurun residence of the Bolowei.
Chief Timiyan further revealed that the kingdom is poised to shoulder all expenses for the burial of the late Chief Mrs Esther Okirika including logistics.
Recall that the late Chief Mrs. Esther Okirika passed away after a protracted illness on Monday, August 25, 2025, at the age of 75, and is slated to be laid to rest in her home town, Oviorie, Ovu Kingdom, Ethiope East council area of Delta State.
A Service of Songs ceremony will take place at the St. Anglican Church along Okere Road in Warri, on Wednesday, September 17, as part of the funeral programmes lined up for the deceased.
Addressing sympathisers who had come to condole with the Bolowei and his family, Chief Timiyan stated that the massive roles played by High Chief Okirika in lifting up the kingdom merited the honour as the kingdom holds him in high esteem.
He recalled the series of infrastructural projects particularly the construction of jetties in the Kingdom during the 80's, the Bolowei's struggle for the creation of Warri South-West council area and the birthing of the 13% Derivation Fund among other notable achievements of the pioneer chairman of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
Meanwhile, plans are on top gear to put together the itinerary of programmes for the orderliness of the funeral, while condolence visits are still ongoing at the residence of the Bolowei.
