FRESH WARDS DELINEATION: GYC charges Gbaramatu youths, others to mobilize for INEC exercise
The Gbaramatu Youth Council, GYC, has called on all sons and daughters, particularly the youths of Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, to mobilise home ahead of the fresh delineation of electoral wards exercise set to conducted in the kingdom by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from Tuesday July 9 to Wednesday July 10, 2024.
The Public Relations Officer of the umbrella body of Gbaramatu youths, Comrade Maxwell Wuruyai, made the call on behalf of the youth President, Mr. Egbejule Kingsley, in a statement he released on Sunday, July 7.
Part of the statement by the GYC reads:"The Gbaramatu Youth Council under the leadership of Mr. Egbejule Arerebo Kingsley is using this medium to call on all Gbaramatu sons and daughters, young and old, including the youths, that they should all come to their various communities on Tuesday July 9th for the fresh electoral ward delineation exercise that is coming up.
"The President of Council is going to be on ground, including all the youth presidents of various communities, to fully monitor this exercise to see that the process is in order.
"Once again the President of the Council is using this medium to call on every Gbaramatu indigene to come home for this historic and important exercise," the statement added.
It would be recalled that the Supreme Court on Friday, December 2, 2022 in Appeal No.: S/413/2016: Hon. George Timinimi & 9 Ors v INEC, had ordered the INEC to carry out fresh delineation of electoral wards and units in Warri North, Warri South and Warri South West LGAs before the conduct of future elections.
Also, ahead of the 2024 LG elections in the state, a peace and social justice advocate, Chief Sheriff Mulade, alongside three other plaintiffs had instituted a suit at the Federal High Court, Asaba, praying the court to stop the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, from conducting the July 13th LG elections in Warri South, Warri South-West and Warri North LGAs of the State until the delineation exercise has been carried out by INEC in conformity with the Supreme Court order.
The national electoral body as led by its National Commissioner representing Delta, Edo and Cross River states, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, is set to conduct the fresh delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency ahead of the forthcoming elections in the State, in a two-day exercise.
