FLOOD DISASTER: N4P Sympathises with Borno Govt, Citizens as Mulade, Waiya Call for Collective Action
The Nigeria for Peace Project, N4P, a civil society organisation, has conveyed its sympathy to the Borno State government and its citizens over the tragic flood incident that has led to loss of lives and the destruction of properties in the state capital, Maiduguri.
The group's statement is contained in a press release signed by its convener and co-convener, Chief (Amb.) Mulade Sheriff and Amb. Ibrahim Waiya, respectively, on Friday, September 13, 2024.
Part of the statement reads, "We, the leading and coordinating civil society organizations known as the Nigeria for Peace Project (N4P) from the thirty-six states and the FCT, as well as in the Diaspora, hereby send our sympathy to the government and people of Borno State, following the recent flood disaster which ravaged major parts of the State.
"Our hearts are heavy, as we sadly witness the loss of lives and property, caused by the flood which also displaced many families and exposed many homes to untold hardships. In this trying period in the history of Nigeria, we commit ourselves to be in solidarity with the affected people and communities.
"While we offer our prayers to those who have lost their lives or their loved ones, we pray God for mercy and eternal rest for the victims. We also pray for the speedy recovery of those who have sustained some injuries.
"May the Almighty Allah grant those who lost their loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss; and the strength to stand firmly in this trying moment, as they struggle to cope with the new reality and recover from the shock," the N4P prayed.
Speaking further om behalf of the N4P, Chief Mulade and Amb. Waiya in their co-joined statement, called for collective action from the Federal Government, wealthy individuals, philanthropists, organizations among other stakeholders to rally support for the affected citizens of Borno State.
"We enjoin the Federal and State Governments, and relevant bodies across board to respond to the demanding situation which requires a collective action to support the victims and families in the affected communities to ensure that the victims receive the necessary support and assistance.
"We also call on all wealthy individuals, philanthropists and organizations to lend their unconditional support for our brothers and sisters at this critical time of need.
"We pray that God Almighty in His infinite mercies will protect our dear country from the reoccurrence of a flood disaster, protect and bless Borno State and its people, and may the victims regain their strength to survive this tragedy and come out of it stronger.
"Please accept our condolences and sympathy," the group added.
It would be recalled that heavy rains had caused a dam to collapse in the northeast state, leading to severe flooding, which according to The PUNCH, left 414,000 people displaced and another 30 were killed by the flood incident in Maiduguri, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
