It would be recalled that the umbrella body of youths in Gbaramatu Kingdom had been tasked with the recruitment of teachers by the Tompolo Foundation, a nongovernmental organization established by High Chief Dr. Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, in its bid to revive the deteriorating state of education in the riverine kingdom.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the GYC, Comrade Wuruyai Maxwell, the meeting centered on provisions of accommodation for the recruited teachers in the communities they wil be posted to as well as the plans of the community leaders to guarantee their hospitality.

He said, "The kingdom is employing teachers. And so, we need the various communities to accommodate them (teachers). For the ones that have accommodation, we will post teachers to them; while the ones that don't have, we implore them to try and put in place accommodation facilities before we post teachers to them.

"Also, whatever they can do to safeguard the teachers from harm, any other way to assist the teachers and to make sure they are comfortable in their own little ways is welcomed," he added

Comr. Wuruyai also revealed that while no specific date for the posting of recruited community-based teachers has been reached by the youth body in collaboration with the screening panel, however noted that the posting which will be done in batches might begin by ending of October 2024 and the month of November 2024 as likely dates.

The various community chairmen welcomed the educational initiative embarked upon by the Tompolo Foundation and pledged their total support for the success of the programme while hinting that they needed teachers in their communities.

They thanked the Tompolo Foundation for bringing them a "big relief" by shouldering the payment of community-based teachers, a burden some of them have been battling with over the years.

It is expected that the recruitment of community-based teachers (which according to estimate by the GYC will be in the range of 80 to 90) by the Tompolo Foundation will put an end to the shortfall of government teachers in the riverine kingdom and improve learning across schools in the kingdom.
