DORIS & KESIYE: Delta, Bayelsa Unite in Love as the Piniki's, Tukuru's Celebrate Marital Union

The fulfillment of a dream long expected finally dawned on Saturday, September 7, 2024, as the beautiful and sumptuous bride, Doris Piniki, and her golden husband cum-groom, Chief (Dr.) Kesiye Justice Tukuru. finally tied the nuptial knot in a traditional marriage setting at the residence of the bride's father, Late Mr Corporal Agelebagha Piniki in Otokutu Town, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

While the bride hails from Azama and Okerenkoko Federated Communities, both in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West council area of the State, the groom is from the family of Chief Oweibo Tukuru of Koluama 1 in Southern Ijaw LG.A of Bayelsa State.

The flamboyant Ijaw traditional marriage ceremony which was attended by members of both families, friends and other well-wishers of the couple, began with entertainment of suitors by the Piniki family as drinks, kola nuts and monies were presented and received by the spokesmen, Hon. Paul Uyatede and Mr. Azor Columbus on behalf of the groom and bride's families, respectively.

Among some of the notable guests in attendance are Archbishop Irawo Joseph, Bishop Felix Piniki, High Chief Samuel Okrika JP, High Chief Matthew Pudie, Chief (Mrs) Vero Emmanuel JP, the Iyela-ere of Izon-Ibe; Chief (Mrs) Marian Anomuogaran, Chief (Mrs) Eguare, Mr. Monday Aboh, Chairman, Ijaw National Congress, INC, Gbaramatu chapter; Hon. Beauty Warejouwei, Hon. Akpodikumor Oturubo, Amb. Frederick Igere, among other personalities from Gbaramatu Kingdom.

The payment of the bride price, which took place indoors, had the bride's family members engage their suitors in the customary practice of stock taking of the necessary items demanded, with the activities laced with some humour.

The ushering of the beautiful and sumptuous bride into the venue after the payment for her price marked the highpoint of the ceremony, with prayers later offered by the bride's family on the newly married couple.

The celebration was later moved from the Piniki's residence, venue of the traditional marriage, to the Glassfex Event Center in Otokutu Town where dignitaries were entertained by the latest couple.
