COMMUNITY DEVT: Tonlagha lists achievements as Kenyangbene inaugurates Ojogun-led leadership
The Dcn. Joseph Tonlagha-led outgone executive council of Kenyangbene Federated Community, Gbaramatu Kingdom, has highlighted its numerous achievements in the oil-rich riverine community, with expectations of more projects execution and completion under the tenure of the Mr. Thankgod Ojogun's leadership, who was inaugurated into office alongside other newly-elected members, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
In his outgoing speech on the occasion of the newly elected executive council, Dcn. Tonlagha, who was represented by the outgone vice chairman, Comrade Derrick Ojogun, listed infrastructure, rural electrification, human capital development, and support for small businesses among other achievements.
He said, "Through engagement and advocacy, the NDDC approved a 1-Kilometre concrete road for Kenyangbene. After due consultation with our people, we ceded the project to our mother community, Benikrukru Federated Community, in the spirit of unity and broader impact.
"NDDC also approved and installed solar street lights in Kenyangbene and in our satellite communities. This has improved safety, extended economic activity into the evenings, and given our community a new look at night.
"We distributed fishing nets and fishing accessories to some indigenes to strengthen their livelihoods and support the local fishing economy.
“We empowered some indigenes with cash tokens to support their trading and small-scale businesses, helping families meet immediate needs and grow their enterprise,” he added.
He further revealed other astounding projects he stated would be executed in the tenure of the newly inaugurated leadership, while acknowledging that his exco has laid the foundation for the growth and progress of the community.
"Beyond these, we laid the groundwork for the future. Because of our hard work and unwavering dedication, we have successfully submitted requests for additional developmental projects to NDDC. By God's grace, these projects will be executed during the tenure of this newly elected Executive.
"I am also pleased to announce that Tantita Security Services has committed to build a new Teacher's Quarter for our community school teachers. This will improve teacher welfare and the quality of learning in Kenyangbene," he disclosed.
Dcn. Tonlagha, who thanked fellow outgone exco members as well as stakeholders of Kenyangbene Community for their support during his leadership, pledged his support for the new exco and called for all sons and daughters to join hands with the new leadership.
"I pledge my full and unreserved support to you and your team. I assure you of my complete cooperation, my experience, and my availability whenever you need counsel. The office of Chairman may change hands, but our love for Kenyangbene remains constant," he asserted.
Other members of the outgone Dr. Tonlagha-led exco are Comr. Imoudu Akhigbe (Secretary General), Engr. Bibogha Victor (Public Relations Officer), Miss Wariyai Jebba Peres (Treasurer), Miss Sinwah Pina (Financial Secretary), Mr Isede Dennis (Assistant Secretary General), Mr Imeleye Joko (Assistant P.R.O.), Mr Kins Gabriel (Social Secretary), Mrs Akafawei Stella (Assistant Financial Secretary), Mr Wuruyai Tam Godspower (Auditor) and Mrs Tete Eden (Chief Whip).
