The inhabitants of Eyara community in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, bubbled with joy as the community's water central board was brought to life after refurbishment and commissioning by the nongovernmental organisation, the Legionnaire for Mankind's Health (LMH), putting an end to the inhabitants' aged-long struggle to access potable water.
The LMH, a Netherlands-based NGO organisation with focus on improving rural healthcare across Africa, commissioned the refurbished water board project in the community, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
The commissioning of the refurbished project was witnessed by the LMH Local Organizing Officer, Mr. Patrick Padiayefagha, LMH Secretary, Mrs. Ogofa Gloria; the President General of Eyara Community, Mr Gbogbo Tawarien, among other elders, women and youths.
Earlier, Mr. Padiayefagha, on behalf of the LMH Founder, Prof. Dr. Ernst Josef Franzek, reiterated the goal of the NGO which is to promote and empower a "lifestyle focused on health, well-being and education and communication" while stressing that the project would help eliminate the dangers of water borne diseases that could be got from unreliable water source.
Prof. Franzek noted that the importance of water to life spurred the organisation to embark on the project as water is a fundamental human right that should be accessible and available to all.
Mr. Padiayefagha thanked the inhabitants of the community for the warm reception accorded the LMH and for cooperating with the NGO to ensure the landmark project became a reality.
President General of Eyara Community, Mr. Tawarien, among other stakeholders thanked the LMH for the laudable landmark project which has brought a huge relief to the people, as the lack of water infrastructure had made life difficult for the people especially when water symbolises life.
He assured the LMH of the community's commitment to not only ensure that the refurbished central water project is put to effective use, but to also protect it from misuse and abuse so that it serves its purpose.
The refurbished water central board tank is said to be in the capacity 10,000 litres which boast of 52 outlets of channeling its storage water to the people.
The LMH, which has special focus in the most popular country in Africa, Nigeria, has been making waves in the Niger Delta region with project commissioning, such as the recent Sandfill 2 Community water project in the Warri South-West L.G.A. of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom and Isaba Kingdom.
