CNL: Gbaramatu HCDT Organises Seminar for Applicants of Host Communities

updated 02 Oct, 2024

The Gbaramatu Host Communities Development Trust (GHCDT), chaired by Chief Joseph Wuruyai, former executive chairman of the defunct Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation (EGCDF), is hosting a four-week aptitude test coaching class for natives of Gbaramatu Kingdom who are applicants of the recent national job opening in Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL).

The ceremony which held at the EGCDF office at Airport Road, Warri, was attended by CNL job applicants from Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West council area of the State, on Monday, September 30, 2024.

The Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Imeleye giving his address in the venue.

Among the facilitators engaged by the GHCDT include Dr. Franca Okumo, Mr. Iziengbe Osifo, and Dr. Simeon Ejakpovi, who, during the session highlighted to applicants in attendance the need for them to develop speed, accuracy, and fast-thinking skills in order to excel, as well as to be timely, well dressed and punctual among others qualities.

Also in attendance is Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Imeleye, who encouraged those in attendance to not settle for their qualifications as represented by their certificates, but to also seek for added advantage that will give them an edge over other competitors.

He informed participants that employers are looking for those with an edge and as such they (applicants) should always strive to go for professional courses to boost their academic resume.

The Rev. Imeleye made reference to the Bible passage of 1 Samuel 16 verses 17 and 18, where he used the scenario of David being selected to play an instrument for King Saul based on his possession of other qualities that made him stand out as well as gave him added advantage over others.

Earlier, the chairman, Chief Wuruyai, welcomed the applicants and charged them to leverage on the opportunity being offered them through the free seminar organised by the GHCDT to enable them prepare ahead for the CNL interview / aptitude test, the date of which is yet to be announced by the oil firm.

One of the facilitators at the seminar

Speaking on the seminar, one of the participants, Mr. Godstime Ayetan, lauded the efforts of the GHCDT for coming up with such a laudable initiative, noting that it is a welcome development.

He said, "It's worth it. Most times when we apply for jobs like this, our people are not doing well because of the lack of preparation. So I think it's a wise decision for the council rep and the executive to come up with this kind of initiative prior to the forthcoming interview.

"First and foremost, those that applied are strictly those that are supposed to attend the training. That is the criteria for you to attend the training. But at least for the knowledge-base, it's still open to some that, maybe they've not applied, but they just want to get the knowledge in the future," he added.

Mr. Godstime Ayetan (R)

Mr. Ayetan, while noting the low turnout of fellow applicants from Gbaramatu Kingdom, charged them to not miss the golden opportunity as no knowledge is a waste.

"I also want to use this opportunity to urge all those that have applied to try and take advantage of this opportunity. It's not enough to say, I know it all. There's no knowledge that is wasted and there's always room to learn more.

"You know, some of the things that they are teaching, you might think you know it before, but then when you see these things in an interview, it becomes a different ballgame. So I've made up my mind that I'm going to participate throughout the programme," he added.

CNL, a top energy company in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), which operates in onshore, offshore, and deep-water regions in the Niger Delta as well as in various non-operated fields, announced 17 vacant positions for applicants expected to submit the entries by September 26.
