BREAST CANCER AWARENESS: Aketekpe advocates for partnership to address health challenges in riverine communities

The Pere of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Oboro Gbaraun II (JP), Aketekpe, Agadagba, has called for more partnership and collaboration between nongovernmental organisations and riverine communities in the creeks of the delta as a measure towards addressing health-related challenges.

The Pere made the call during the breast cancer awareness campaign visit by the co-founder of the E’Girls Right Foundation (EGRF), Hon. Stella Okotete OON, to the ancient kingdom, on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

Also accompanying the Founder of the Foundation on the royal visit are Mrs. Guwor Timiebi Akuna, wife of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly; Mrs. Nwachukwu Endurance, Coordinator of the initiative and founder of the Endybekx Initiative for Children and Women Development (EBICWD), among other personalities.

Among female chiefs in attendance to receive the EGRF and its team of volunteers are Multiple Chief (Mrs.) Vero Emmanuel (JP), the Iyela-Ere of Izon-Ibe and the Ibe-Benimo-ere of Gbaramatu Kingdom; Chief (Dr.) Mrs. Marian Ebike Anumuoghanran, Women Leader, Oil and Gas Ijaw Ethnic Nationality, Delta State chapter, among other chiefs.

Hon. Okotete, the EGRF co-founder, who is also the Executive Director (Business Development) in the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), itimated His Majesty on the Foundation's visit aimed at hosting a seminar to create awareness on breast cancer related issues.

Hon. Okotete, a former Special Assistant and Adviser to the Executive Governor of Delta State on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) between 2011 and 2015, hinted that the seminar will feature breast cancer screening, blood pressure screening, wellness lecture, networking, treatment and referrals, among other activities.

She further revealed that the EGRF is looking forward to establish a breast cancer diagnostic center in Delta State in partnership with a foreign organization in Turkey to help with addressing breast cancer issues.

His Majesty, who was delighted at the visit, commended the initiative and called for partnership and collaboration between the EGRF and other similar NGO organisations and the kingdom.

Aketekpe, who cited the nature of the riverine area as a challenge, especially to health, promised to always support health initiative beyond just creating awareness to providing lands for the establishment of health facilities in the kingdom to help prevent untimely deaths through early detection.

The Pere of the ancient kingdom prayed for the success of the initiative and for more grace, wisdom and strengths on Hon. Okotete and her team.
