BIOGRAPHY: Final Farewell as Families Celebrate Late Mama Seimekegba Nanadigha Gbasei at 95

Born on July 3, 1929, the Late Mama Seimekegba Nanadigha Gbasei Nee Orugbo Ikainkoro, who passed away after a brief illness on July 29, 2024, on her 95th year on Earth, was peaceful laid to eternal rest at her hometown, Kunukunuma Federated Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

Her remains was earlier conveyed from the Veenell Hospital Mortuary at Okumagba Avenue, Warri, in a brown casket by family members and friends who have come to pay their last respect in honour of the mother, grandmother and great grandmother who left as her descendants seven children, 35 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren.

On arrival in Kunukunuma, a social wake-keep ceremony followed on Friday evening preceded by a Christian ceremony that was marked with testimonials of the life of Mama, a sermon and prayers for the family members of the deceased.

At the age of 95, her passing elicited celebration in a mixed sorrowful mood by family members and sympathisers even though they wished she had stayed much longer on Earth.

According to her brief biography, the late "Mama Seimekegba was born into the family of late Pa Orugbo and late Mama Uyaegberi, both of whom hails from Okerenkoko and Kunukunuama communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom. By her birth position, she was the second child and the first daughter of the Orugbo family.

"Mama was not privileged to have a formal education, but she was very industrious in terms of weaving of all kinds of fishing materials, baskets, fishing cages, fish drying materials and many more.

"Mama was also good in the fishing occupation and mastered all kinds of fishing techniques. She was very hard working, diligent in her weaving and fishing skills.

"Mama got married to her beloved husband, Late Pa Nanadigha Gbasei, in her early twenties and their marital union produced seven children.

"She was peaceful in all her endeavors, and was a role model to her younger siblings and her children. Her love and desire for education for her children saw her sponsoring them through schools as well as engaging them in trade.

"She was a true mother, sister, auntie to the Orugbo and Gbasei families. Mama will be missed for her gentility, kind words, good advices, love and her peaceful nature.

"Rest well great daughter of Ikainkoro dynasty," the biography concludes.

May her gentle soul rest peacefully in the Bosom of the Lord.
