BIOGRAPHY: Adieu to a Virtuous Woman Par Excellence, Late Mrs. Monica Guwor Nee Odudu

Families, friends and other sympathisers bid final farewell to the Most Senior Mother Mrs. Monica Guwor nee Odudu, wife of the Olotu of Ogulagha Kingdom, High Chief Council Guwor, at a funeral service that held in Oporoza community, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, on Friday, November 22, 2025.

The funeral service for the late Mrs. Guwor who passed away at the age of 79 years was officiated by ministers from the Christ Healing Temple of God Deliverance Ministry Inc. and featured worship and praises, singing of hymns, Bible lessons, prayers for the family, among other activities. Below is the biography of the departed mother:

Mrs. Monica (Odunore) Guwor (Nee Odudu) was born on the 14th of June, 1946 into the family of Late Pa Edward Odudu Ogun (a.k.a. Apkuwa) in Ikeretimi Quarter of Oporoza Town, and Late Mama Mele Egbele of the Eruweye Family of Ijaghala Town, both of Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State. A virtuous woman par excellence whose husband and family wellbeing was top notch in her mind, a lover of God through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Mama was the second child and eldest daughter of Pa Edward Odudu Ogun. She began her early days in Oporoza attending the Native Authority Primary school Oporoza in 1955 with her cousins. After two years, she moved to Warri Township where she continued and completed her primary school and obtained the First School Leaving Certificate. She was among the first set of Oporoza girls that moved to Warri to school.

Having passed the Warri Urban District Secondary School Entrance Examination, she continued her education at the Modern School, which she completed in 1964 and Obtained the Modern School Leaving Certificate. She then worked briefly before getting married.

She was united in marriage to Chief Council Guwor, the Olotu of Ogulagha Kingdom in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State and together they shared a blessed union of Fifty Eight (58) good years. Like the Proverbs 23, virtuous woman, Mama Monica Guwor’s price is far above rubies and the heart of her husband doth safely trust in her.

She was a devoted wife and loving mother whose nurturing heart shaped generations. She poured herself into her family, providing guidance, encouragement and prayer that remain the foundation of their lives. As a grandmother, her joy overflowed and her legacy of love extended to her grandchildren and all who came close to her.

A devout Christian, Mrs. Monica Guwor began her spiritual journey at St. Andrews Cathedral Church, Warri. It is noteworthy that her father, Pa Edward Odudu Ogun was among the founders of the Anglican Church in Oporoza. In 1985, she joined Christ Healing Temple of God Deliverance Ministry Church, where she continued to serve faithfully. Through ministerial training and active participation, she rose to the position of Most Senior Mother in the Church. Even when challenged by arthritis in her later years, she remained steadfast in her faith and service attending church activities as much as her health allowed.

Her Life was a testimony of faith, compassion and dedication. She will be remembered for her devotion to God, her service in the church, her compassion toward all who crossed her path, her generosity of spirit that uplifted many and her unwavering love and commitment to her family.

With a passion for service and growth, she trained as a Community Development Officer preparing herself for a life of Public Service. Her Professional Career began with the Ministry of Local Government, Community Development Division in the then Bendel State and later with the Ministry of Women Affairs Commission & Social Development, Community Development Office, Delta State. 

Over the years, she worked diligently in various locations including Benin, Bomadi and finally Warri. In Warri she played a significant role at the Government Daycare Centre, where she laid strong foundation for the education and nurturing of young children. Many of those have grown to become successful professionals, a testament to her dedication. She also served at the Warri South Local Government Council until her retirement at the age of sixty after more than three decades of meritorious service.

Though she has gone to rest with her Creator, her legacy of faith, love and service will continue to live on in her family, in her church and all whose lives she touched. She is survived by her Husband, Chief Council Guwor, the Olotu of Ogulagha Kingdom, and Children, among whom are Mr. Fredrick Okonedo, Mr. Kenneth Guwor, Mrs. Caroline Gaja, Mr. Prince Guwor, Mr. Tariboh Guwor, Mr. Doubrah Guwor, Mr. Emmanuel Tamarakro Guwor; grandchildren, in-laws, brothers, sisters and a host of other relatives.
