Children are what make the world to go round—they will grow up to become future leaders, will inherit our possessions, maintain our heritage, keep our dreams alive as well as birth new ones... As such, they are an integral part of our existence and deserve special attention and happiness, which the season of Christmas, the global holiday celebrated worldwide, offers. And if there is one organisation that is making use of the holiday season to touch the lives of children, it is the Esther Matthew Tonlagha (EMT) Foundation.

Established by Benikrukru-born leader and Delta State business mogul, Mr. Matthew Tonlagha, and his wife, Dcns. (Mrs.) Esther Tonlagha, the EMT Foundation uses the Christmas season to demonstrate epic giving at its annually hosted festival, with the 2024 edition, which is tagged: "Benikrukru Community Family Christmas Carol and Festival of Praise", not any different.

Children from the coastal community that is situated in the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, and from environs, always look forward to the festival and the opportunities it presents them to gear up for the next term when school eventually resumes.

Of course, parents too are not left out as they put in every effort to ensure that their wards do not miss the yearly edition, and that they themselves look forward to go home with a gift, two or more. Beyond their expectations, the 2024 edition did not disappoint!

Both children and parents went home with quality school bags classified within the range of kindergarten, primary, secondary and adult. Notebooks, calculators and other learning materials were circulated to all in attendance, eliciting joy from beneficiaries at the 2024 edition of the festival. Santa Claus was also on ground to delight the children in attendance. 

Coordinating the giving of gifts by the EMT Foundation, the executive leadership of Benikrukru community, Comrade Joel Tonjoh, ensured fairness and transparency in the process as well as ensuring that the exercise was conducted in an orderly manner to avoid stampede or unnecessary rush.

It was a relief to see the joy in the faces of the children as they received their precious gifts. More importantly, the memorable experience brought alive by the EMT Foundation is one that would not only be remembered by the children all through their lives, but will also ignite in them the passion to grow up, work hard to someday give back to the society. That is the most impactful lesson that the EMT Foundation is imprinting in the minds of the leaders of tomorrow with its epic giving. 

God bless the EMT Foundation for adding smiles to the faces of children every year-end at its hosted festival and for bringing relief to parents as they prep up for school runs on resumption, most especially in this hard economic times.
