As the Tonlagha Dynasty celebrate their departed Father and Hero, Late Sgt. Oweiyegha Rowland Imoun Tonlagha, who passed away on the 8th of November 1996, the leadership of Benikrukru community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, has, in a letter of remembrance, eulogise the life lived by the late hunter, mariner, sergeant and leader, with prayers of longevity on the descendants of the deceased.

The letter was signed by the chairman of Benikrukru community Chairman and Secretary, Comr. Joel Tonjoh and Pst. Paul Boyitie, PhD.

The 28th Remembrance was celebrated at the Tonlagha's family compound in Benikrukru community on Friday, November 8, 2024.

The community while describing the late Father and Hero as "a man of peace and lover of many", admitted that the late Sgt. Tonlagha will be remembered for his many good deeds from which they will continue to draw inspiration from.

The letter of remembrance reads:

"We are pleased to write to you on behalf of the Benikrukru community to share in the 28 years of remembrance celebration with the entire OWEIYEGHA IMOUN TONLAGHA FAMILY of Gbazor Quarters, of your beloved father who departed unto glory 28 years ago, whose sad event occurred on 8th November 1996 after a brief illness.

"While it is painful that your beloved father, Sgt. Rowland Oweiyegha Imoun Tonlagha had to quit the stage at that moment when his very useful advice and services were most required, you should, however, be consoled that your beloved father whose life was an epistle, read not only by his progenies, but all whose paths traversed him, will continue to inspire all of us.

"Until his demise, Sgt. Rowland Oweiyegha Imoun Tonlagha was a devoted Christian, who worshipped in the Nigerian Army Chapel while in service and also actively participated in community activities. He was a man of peace and lover of many; we will hold the memories he shared together with people so close to our hearts. He will be remembered for his good deeds by family members, the church, the community and Gbaramatu Kingdom at large.

"The godly virtues of his selfless service, humility, philanthropy, and honesty, being characteristic features evidently manifested in him, speak volumes of the exemplary life your beloved father lived.

"May the peaceful soul of your beloved departed father rest in perfect peace with His maker, Jehovah, while praying that the scepter of longevity will remain eternal, even amongst the Oweiyegha Imoun Tonlagha’s unborn generations."

Meanwhile, in the venue of the 28th Year Remembrance of the Father and Hero, lay the resting place of the late Sgt. Tonlagha, whose exploits while alive is still celebrated decades after his passing. May his golden soul continue to rest peacefully (Amen).
