updated 10 Jan, 2024

The Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, His Royal Majesty, Monday Obukohwo Ovie Whiskey (Udurhie 1), has disclosed his interest to be a part of the annual Ijaw Day of Prayer, Praise and Thanksgiving programme organised by the Ijaw Christian Fellowship (ICF) Interdenominational, Delta State Chapter, under the leadership of Rev. Anthony Burutu.

The traditional ruler who was a special guest at the 27th edition of the Ijaw Day of Prayer, Praise and Thanksgiving themed 'Divine Turnaround' and which held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Chief Tunde Smooth playground near NPA, Warri, also commended the Ijaw Nation for giving God a paramount place by coming together to pray, praise and offer thanks to Him.

"I am happy, I am indeed very impressed that the people of Ijaw Nation put themselves together and pick a special date to thank the God Almighty," said HRM Ovie Whiskey during a brief speech.

Continuing His Majesty added, "There is nothing we can do without God. There is nothing we can do without [His] power. I believe that whatever achievement that we have made so far is from God Almighty. And for us to continue to make more, we will continue and we should continue to worship our God, to serve our God.

"I am happy to be invited to this epoch making ceremony. The chairman of the Ijaw Traditional Rulers Forum, fellow traditional rulers, people of God, continue to worship God because that is the only way and that is the only place where the light exist.

"On behalf of myself and the peace loving people of Idjerhe Kingdom, I am happy to be associated with this organization, and I will want to be part of it every year, year in year out," His Majesty promised.

Earlier the Udurhie 1 expressed his delight on the people turning to God he describes as a "new Saviour" who does not impose Himself on the people as regards forced-worship.

"I am most delighted because we are finding a new Saviour; a Saviour that does not take anything for sacrifice. A Saviour that takes our prayers, a Saviour that takes our thanksgiving, a Saviour that does not bring confusion, a Saviour that does not dictate to us how we should worship Him. We worship Him in our own style, we worship Him in our own language."

The programme which featured prayers, praises and thanksgiving also had in attendance some top traditional rulers such as the Pere of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom, the Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom, the Pere of Kabowei Kingdom, the Pere of Isaba Kingdom, the Pere of Ogbolubiri Mein Kingdom, the Pere of Oporomo Kingdom, among others.

Also appearing as a guest is the fiery preacher, the Commanding ArchBishop Winning Willy Bunting of the Apostolic Army Worldwide, who serenaded those in attendance with his charismatic and captivating style of preaching.
