As the global world marks International Women's Day, IWD, the government and other stakeholders have been called upon to take action in support of women, particularly towards advancing women's personal and professional lives, promoting equal opportunities, and address the challenge of gender biases against women.

The call was made by Barr. Itima Iyoroebi Vera, the Speaker of the sociocultural organisation in Nigeria, the Ijaw Women Connect Worldwide, on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

Barr. Itima, who was the former National President of the Gbaramatu Female Graduates Association in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West council area of Delta State, stated that her appeal aligns with the theme of the 2025 IWD, "For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment"

Part of her statement reads, "I, Itima Iyoroebi Vera, proudly join the world in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8, 2025.

"On this special day, it is an opportunity to honor the incredible women in our lives—our mothers, sisters, daughters, colleagues, and friends. Lets take out time in supporting them and creating a world where every woman and girl have the opportunity to get to their full potential.

"This year’s theme, ‘For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment’ emphasizes the importance of fostering an inclusive world where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive," she added.

Barr. Itima further emphasized that the IWD is not just about celebrating the global event but that focus should be given to taking action to better the lives of women globally.

"International Women’s Day is not just about celebration but also about action. We encourage everyone to support and increase women in their personal and professional lives; advocate and protect policies as well as promote equal opportunities; and recognise and challenge gender biases in everyday situations.

"International Women's Day is a reminder that we all have a role in creating a world where women are valued, respected, and empowered. Together, we can create a future where every woman and every girl has the power to run, understand, inspire and to dream again.

"Together we can forge gender equality. Collectively for #IWD2025 we can all #AccelerateAction. Happy International Women’s Day 2025!" she stressed.
