ROBOT: Meet the Most Expensive in the World
Did you know that the name of the most expensive robot in the world is Titan, and that it is not a powered exoskeleton but is a plastic costume worn by a man with its cost running up to $7 billion?
Created by the British company, Cyberstein Robots Limited, Titan is the name of the most expensive robot in the world. Titan the Robot is a robotic costume that is approximately 8 feet tall and weighs 60 kg (9.4 st) which increases to 350 kg (55 st) including the cart it rides on and onboard equipment.
Titan is enhanced by various actuators and electronic devices, resembling a humanoid robot, that is worn by an actor who moves the appendages of the costume and controls electronic functions like sound effects from the inside of the costume.
The robot was designed by Nik Fielding, who runs Cyberstein from Newquay, Cornwall, England. Titan has performed at a variety of public and private events, such as the Commonwealth Games, Bar Mitzvahs UK shopping centres, television fundraisers and live concerts. It entered the Chinese market in 2018 and operated by Tuxuan Robotics.
The costume of the robot was often compared with a Transformer one. The robot has a skull face but is not scary. In fact, the robot was made only for entertainment. You could rent the robot and host a live show.
Titan performed its walking, greeting visitors, joking, singing and moving on the Commonwealth Games, Alton Tower, Bar Mitzvahs and malls around the world, during performances. Also it was on the stage with some of the most famous artists around the world such as JLS band, “Germany’s Next Top Model”.
Titan was with Rihanna in 2010 at the ECHO Awards in Berlin, Germany; and on Gadget Show, the TV show about awesome gadgets; and many other famous TV shows and live shows.
The costs of the robot were around $7 billion dollars and it was just made for fun. You can hire the robot for a day with just $150 million.
The building of the robot took four years and it can also sing, dance and even a little burp and fart. The fact that the robot is not as real as the ASIMO doesn’t matter for the Titan Robot. ASIMO, an acronym for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility, is a humanoid robot created by Honda in 2000.
ASIMO is displayed in the Miraikan museum in Tokyo, Japan. On 8 July 2018, Honda posted the last update of Asimo on their official page stating that it would be ceasing all development and production of Asimo robots in order to focus on more practical applications using the technology developed through Asimo's lifespan.
ASIMO made its last active appearance in March 2022, over 20 years after its first, as Honda announced that they are retiring the robot to concentrate on remote-controlled, avatar-style, robotic technology
